Save The Astoria

Filed under: music — Gary @ 3:07 pm

Here at StopTout.com we fully back The Save the Astoria campaign.  A new petition has been set up by students Sarah Tennant and Jade Dickinson to save the legendry rock venue from the bulldozers.

The building, which has hosted Legendry acts such as The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Oasis and Blur, has been sold for £23.75 million by Compco Holdings to Derwent Valley.

The 2,000-capacity venue is understood to be on lease to music promoter Mean Fiddler until December 2008. Christine Gorham of Live Nation, which owns Mean Fiddler, said the company was powerless to prevent a redevelopment of the site.

SavetheAstoria.org has already had over 26 thousand signatures on its petition and thousands of music fans are voting for it to be crowned best music venue in the Vodafone music awards.

Personally speaking the Astoria is one of my favourite venues and no other venue of its size canMusic Ticket compare for atmosphere and access. I can remember seeing Muse play there with Coldplay supporting, a nervous looking Chris Martin entered the stage apologising for taking up everyone’s time whilst waiting for Muse, I remember thinking ‘this band are way too polite to ever be successful’. Another legendry week was when Blur had a five-night residency, seeing the likes of Damen Alban and Phil Daniels in such an intimate venue was truly unforgettable.

StopTout.com is encouraging it’s members to join the campaign and sign the petition. Members can do so by visiting www.savetheastoria.org

Football Tickets Update

Filed under: Football — Gary @ 1:59 pm

Hi Folks!

You may, or may not be aware that it is illegal under British law to re-sell Football tickets for games involving British clubs. Because of this law you cannot currently list Football tickets on our site for games that involve British Teams. However the reason we ask which team you support when registering, is because we are currently lobbying for a change in the law which would allow fans of the same club to exchange tickets at face value.

We are hoping to meet with representatives from the English FA soon and we will keep you up to date on the progress of our discussions. In the meantime please do not list tickets for British teams as we will have to remove the listing. I hate having to do this as I feel it is grossly unfair to British Football fans, but hopefully things will change soon.

If you support to our aims please add your comments.

Number One site to buy & sell Ashes tickets at face value!

Filed under: Cricket — Gary @ 4:08 pm

With help from the Barmy Army and their ex-pat friends in Australia we can announce that this will be the number 1 site to buy and sell Ashes tickets at face value. We have been contacted by over 700 fans with spare Ashes tickets who want to trade the on our site.

If you are an ex-pat living out in Australia, remember when you sell your tickets you will gain ‘etix’ and you can use these in the future auctions. So when you want to come to the home to the UK you should have no problems getting tickets for the English cricket season, Gigs, Festivals, Football or Rugby..
